Data Files
The Health and Migration Survey (HMS) data are structured in four files for each year of data collection. All files are available for public use. The four files are WMSFILE, KIDSFILE, HOUSEFILE, AND MENSFILE.
WMSFILE contains information on all women enumerated from sample households. KIDSFILE contains general information about all children of respondents; it also contains, for the youngest and next to youngest children born before January 1989, detailed birth histories and illnesses in the last fifteen days prior to the survey. HOUSEFILE contains information on each household enumerated in the sample. MENSFILE contains information on the male household heads.
The table below provides a brief summary of the topics included in the four files. Each includes three variables (ID, COMMUN, and PERSNUM) to permit merging the data files.
